Photo Hikes are easy to moderate, 2-4 mile explorations, within 1-2 hours of Denver and intended for all skill levels of photography. Together we will exercise our bodies and our creativity. I'll lead you to prime viewpoints and point out unexpected visuals as we discover them, sharing my insight and experience along the way. With weather, season and serendipity, no two hikes are ever the same. Currently available from July - Oct, 2021. Planned hikes are listed below, but individual appointments are also available, so please inquire.
Mission: As an artist-in-residence at both Zion and Capitol Reef National Parks, my goal is to help you make the most of your love of photography and the great outdoors. We need wilderness to remember the wild places within ourselves. Showing others the beauty that we have discovered completes the loop. Further, we are dedicated to preserving and protecting the wild places we have the honor to experience.
Background: I'm an advertising, magazine, humanitarian and fine art photographer, whose heart resides in the American West. During my national park residencies I worked on a deeply personal project about the tension between preserving and experiencing wild places in the environment and ourselves. For 20 years I have documented poverty in the developing world for international relief and development agencies. Prior to that, I was a newspaper photojournalist. My award-winning work has been recognized and exhibited internationally, including the prestigious Gordon Parks Award and InterAction’s Effective Assistance Humanitarian Photography Award, among many other honors. I've led photo workshops and presented lectures for a range of national and international photography organizations and at a half-dozen universities, with audiences up to 500 people. I've given dozens of media interviews and led a National Geographic student expedition.
